AT&T Center

That espresso machine cost $22,000 and is one of 100 in the world (it's number 48). The first went to the Pope.

The new conference center is priced far beyond the abilities of most student organizations to afford. Interesting how taxpayers are fronting over one. hundred. million. dollars. in bonds, yet AT&T shells out $21M and gets to name it.

All that said, it's a very pretty building. It's a shame only the wealthy will enjoy it.

I suck

I've been really negligent in posting to this blog, only because I've been so constantly busy back here in Austin. It's wonderful. I am honorably weary.

So, here's a few posts of recent assignments to make up for it, I hope.

Back in Austin

A few photos from the trip on I-35...

Well, I'm back... the insanity of moving is mostly over, though a great deal of work remains in setting up my apartment. It's so strange to have so much stuff. I'm weighed down by it, it certainly slows me down when it comes to travel, but I'm so attached to these relics of my past. A photo is so easy to store and carry with you. Heck, most of my work resides on a digital cloud, accessible anywhere in the world (well, maybe not China.) I don't know why I face so much resistance when I throw away a shitty ceramic piece I threw in high school, or (and this was harder) a candleholder I made in my 2nd grade after-school program. I'm really counting on my memory, I suppose... physical items like these contain so much history, they can really take you back. It's a little easier to toss the items that take me back someplace I wasn't fond of in the first place.

Anyways, here I am, back in the midst of my favorite city. It's good to be back. I'm in love with Austin's trees and hills.

Experimenting with darkness... I love how Matt Eich works black into his color photos. Almost every one has really nice rich blacks, which somehow complements the colors even better.

Can't wait to chase the light in Austin. Looks like I'm going down on Tuesday.

Preparation

I'm preparing as well. In my case, for the end of the summer, a welcome return to Austin, and another intense school year. Though I've been feeling guilty about not pursuing a major project this summer, I've also been taking as much of a vacation as working 50 hours a week allows for. It's been fun even with so much work, getting to see old friends, hangin' out, lots of good nights here in D-town. However... preparation has begun. Mentally, I'm already starting to leave for Austin.
